Echo Irving- MA Fine Art
Echo Irving is a multi-disciplinary artist who’s experimental practice focuses on the observation of the human form, shape and existence intertwined with fabric and latex as key materials; questioning and interpreting the value of traditional materials, processes and themes to allow exploration and confrontation of self. Expressionism, Abstraction and Abjection as a root of their inspiration acts alongside: allowing both playfulness and flexibility to guide and construct sometimes questionable and unusual forms, gestures and textures to representing closeness and intimacy with the surfaces of skin.
Juxtaposed, rough and sometimes distorted marks, objects and brushstrokes commonly found within the pieces act as a direct hint towards the needed intervention of the ever growing human obsession with technology, and the controlling of bodies within media. Following narratives of representation, concealment and censorship of real, raw human forms, their works are portrayed to act as an embodiment of the repetitive and drained sense of self, represented through malleable, deconstructed and intimate forms; directly faulting the addictive and competitive nature of both societal and digital life.
