Nidhi Jitender Khatri- MA Interiors
I am an Interior Designer with a growing interest in commercial and hospitality design, particularly in creating spaces that bring people together through place, culture and experience. My work sits between interior architecture, storytelling and material exploration, with a focus on designing spaces that are purposeful, engaging and rooted in their context.
My MA Interior Design project, Pomona, explores how a forgotten part of Manchester can be reimagined through design. Once associated with pleasure gardens, the Royal Pomona Palace and the industrial activity of Pomona Docks, the site holds multiple layers of the city’s social and industrial history. I transformed these narratives into a contemporary destination combining a marketplace, café and bar, and garden centre — connecting food, production, landscape and community. Rather than treating heritage as something to preserve behind glass, the project asks how it can become something people actively experience and use.
I enjoy working across different scales, from spatial planning and interior environments to furniture, lighting, ceramics and material details. My experience includes internships with KlimArt and Design Matters in Bangalore, freelance design work, exhibition and gallery projects, and involvement in events and exhibitions through my university roles. I have also explored design beyond the studio through Milan Design Week, exhibition-making and my work as a student representative and STRIVE Leader.
I am particularly interested in commercial, hospitality and experiential interiors where design has to balance identity, functionality and the way people move, interact and feel within a space. I want to continue developing a practice that combines research, creativity and hands-on making to create interiors that are memorable, useful and connected to the people and places they serve.
