The Climb
Letícia Freire is a Portuguese documentary photographer whose work focuses on memory, emotional resilience, and how people experience and move through the world around them.
‘The Climb’ is a project about struggle. It looks at what it feels like to keep going when things are difficult, when progress is slow, and when there isn’t a clear end in sight. The work focuses on the effort it takes just to move forward, even in small ways.
The images reflect moments of exhaustion, doubt, and persistence. They don’t present growth as something easy or rewarding, but as something that takes time, repetition, and strength. There is no clear “top” in The Climb—instead, it shows the ongoing nature of trying, failing, and trying again.
Letícia invites viewers to recognise their own struggles within the work, creating a space where difficulty is shared rather than hidden.
