Drawn to stories that blend the surreal, the strange, and the deeply human, Fenton's work is usually rooted in comedy, taking a different turn with Choose Wisely. Inspired by eccentric characters, offbeat humour, and a love of the unexpected, his films often use absurd or unconventional ideas to explore genuine emotions and human experiences. Across his work, he is particularly interested in balancing humour with heart, creating stories that are both distinctive and emotionally resonant.
Choose Wisely represents both a culmination of five years studying film and the realization of an idea that has been developing since his first year at university. Inspired by a fascination with alternative life paths and parallel possibilities, the film explores how different choices can lead to entirely different realities.
While more reflective in tone than much of their previous work, Choose Wisely remains connected to the filmmaker's wider interest in character, imagination, and the complexities of everyday life. The film also serves as a celebration of the cinema and television that have shaped their creative voice throughout their studies.
As they continue developing their practice as a writer, director, and editor, they remain committed to creating distinctive stories that embrace the unusual, whether through comedy, fantasy, or drama, while always keeping heart at their centre.
